31 Greenwood
Second post today! This route is the 31 Greenwood, which operates with two branches:
- 31A Greenwood: Greenwood Station to Queen
- 31B Greenwood: Greenwood Station to Eastern
Let's get into TTC's most reliable route!
The Route
Buses on both branches exit Greenwood Station via Strathmore, Linnsmore and Danforth. Buses then turn left onto Greenwood. North of the rail corridor, the east side is single-family homes, whereas the west is dominated by TTC's Greenwood Yard for Line 2. South of the rail corridor is mainly single-family homes.
The two branches diverge at Queen. 31A buses loop clockwise via Queen, Hiltz and Dorothy. The stop at Dorothy/Greenwood is the only one served exclusively by the 31A. 31B buses loop counter-clockwise via Queen, Leslie, Eastern, Woodward, and Queen, to serve Canada Post on Eastern. Buses end their trips there.

Frequency and Ridership
Unlike literally every other route, when the 31A and 31B runs is not as clear-cut by time period. The 31B operates to serve shift changes at Canada Post. This means it operates during weekday morning peak before 7:30am, weekday afternoon peak from 3:15pm to 4:15pm, evenings after 9pm. On Saturdays the 31B operates before 7:40am and after 9pm, and on Sundays after 9:15pm.
Weekday morning peak and midday service is every 13', afternoon peak is every 14', early evening is every 12', and late evening is every 25'. Weekend daytime and early evening service is every 20', and is every 25' during late evenings.
Ridership is decent, with weekday ridership being 2,800, Saturday being 1,500 and Sunday being 1,300.
Thoughts
As I previously mentioned, this is TTC's most reliable route, as it is in on-time 92% of the time (is the on-time range too large? I think so, but whatever). The route is simple and does its job well. I have one main issue, and it's with the branch setup.
Because the hours the 31B operates at are not regular, where to board at Queen can be confusing, as the 31A stops on the west side of Greenwood while the 31B on the east. A consistent boarding location would be nice, so maybe service could be extended to Canada Post at all hours?
Future
Like the previous route, this route will still exist!!
