24 Victoria Park

Image
Hi friends! Today's route is the 24 Victoria Park, which operates with two branches: 24A Victoria Park: Victoria Park Stn to Steeles 24B Victoria Park: Victoria Park Stn to Don Mills Stn via Consumers Rd Some northbound early morning and southbound late night trips are extended: 24 Victoria Park: Kingston Rd to Steeles The 924 Victoria Park Express provides limited-stop service, duplicating the 24A branch during peak periods. It is temporarily suspended. This is my local route! So I have a lot of knowledge about this route specifically. This route provides the majority of the western boundary of Scarborough. The Route Northbound buses travel from Victoria Park Station via Victoria Park. After crossing the Dentonia Golf Course, the route services low-density areas. The route up until Eglinton is predominately low-density, but there are a number of higher-density sites: Dawes, Parma Court, Southmead, and Eglinton itself. Eglinton has many big-box stores, including at the Golden Mile ...

23 Dawes

Image
Hi friends! Today's route is the 23 Dawes, which operates with one branch: 23 Dawes: Main Street Stn to St Clair This route, despite its short length, is very busy. The Route Northbound buses depart Main Street Stn via Main and Danforth. Shortly after, the buses turn northeast onto Dawes. From this point until Goodwood Park is low-density, but the homes are quite close together. At Goodwood Park are the first set of apartments on the route. Both Crescent Town and Park Vista are home to other high-rises. The rest of Dawes has a mix of uses, with some of each low, medium and high density, as well as commercial uses. The apartment towers tend to get shorter the further north you travel. At the end of Dawes, the buses loop clockwise through low-density areas via Ferris, Rexleigh, St Clair and Victoria Park. Buses wait for their time in front of 195 Rexleigh, which is the only apartment tower in this section. Sights to See Dentonia Park Taylor Creek Park Taylor Creek Trail Subway Conn...

22 Coxwell

Image
Hey pals! Today's route is the 22 Coxwell, which operates with two branches: 22A Coxwell: Coxwell Stn to Victoria Park via Kingston Rd 22B Coxwell: Coxwell Stn to Queen This route is a rare one on the TTC: a route that's more reliable during rush hours then outside of it. Let's get into it! The Route The 22 bus exits Coxwell Station via Strathmore, and heads south on Coxwell. The route is a mix of low and medium-density housing, with a number of businesses situated near Gerrard in the Little India neighbourhood. The B branch covers just the length of Coxwell, looping clockwise via Queen, Eastern and Coxwell. The A branch travels via Queen and up Kingston Rd. This stretch, similar to the the rest of Coxwell, is a mix of densities, with a bit of commercial business along the stretch, including a number of restaurants. At Victoria Park, the buses loop counter-clockwise through Bingham Loop. Sights to See Monarch Park Stadium Small's Creek Woodbine Park Glen Stewart Ravin...

21 Brimley

Image
Hey pals! Today's route is the 21 Brimley. This route operates with three branches: 21A Brimley: Kennedy Stn to Scarborough Centre 21B Brimley: Scarborough Centre to Steeles 21C Brimley: Kennedy Stn to Steeles via Scarborough Centre The 21 Brimley used to be two routes, and this is evidence in current scheduling for the route. The Route The 21 Brimley bus leaves Kennedy, like other routes, via the North Service Road. This stretch is shared by the 21A and 21C branches. Buses travel east on Eglinton, passing some commercial areas before turning north onto Brimley. The entirety of Brimley until Ellesmere is single-family homes, save Thomson Memorial Park, located north of Lawrence. At Ellesmere, there are high-density towers to the east, but these are within walking distance to Scarborough Centre Station, so most people just walk to the RT.  North of Scarborough Centre is shared by the 21B and 21C branches. Big box commercial and industrial flanks both sides for the short stret...

20 Cliffside

Image
Hey! Today's route is the 20 Cliffside, which operates with one branch: 20 Cliffside: Main Street Stn to Kennedy Stn This route basically overs all of southwest Scarborough that does not otherwise have bus service. The Route Eastbound buses exit Main Street Station via Main. Buses travel east on Danforth, providing service along with the 113 Danforth Rd route, which diverges at Danforth Rd. The stretch on Danforth is lined with businesses and single-family homes, besides some higher densities near Warden. Buses exit Danforth onto Parkette Place, before travelling north on Birchmount (westbound buses turn direct onto Danforth from Birchmount). Buses then head east on Highview, north on Kennedy, and east on Park, which is exclusively single-family homes. Buses head north on Midland (just one block north of Kingston), passing some high-rises before continuing past single-family homes. There is higher-density near Danforth Rd, and at Eglinton, where buses head west before heading to ...

17 Birchmount (including YRT 17 Birchmount)

Image
Hey hey! Today's route is the 17 Birchmount. This mainline Scarborough route operates with three branches: 17A Birchmount: Warden Stn to Highway 7 17B Birchmount: Warden Stn to Steeles via Wintermute 17C Birchmount: Warden Stn to Steeles and Warden Trust me, this route is way less confusing that the 12 Kingston Rd. The Route All 17 branches leave Warden Stn via Warden and St Clair. Buses travel east on St Clair for a short time, before turning north onto Birchmount. The route has a variety of functions. It is mainly single-family homes on the west side for this stretch, with the east side flanked by the large Pine Hills Cemetery. When the bus passes Comstock, the west side becomes industrial, with the east side being single-family homes. For the most part, this is the case the entire way up to Highway 401, besides a few high-rises near Eglinton and Lawrence. North of Highway 401, the area is entirely single-family homes, but with high-density pockets near Sheppard and Finch and a...

16 McCowan

Image
Today's route is the 16 McCowan, which is another mainline north-south Scarborough route. It operates with one branch: 16 McCowan: Warden Stn to Scarborough Centre In addition, the last southbound trip of the night operates an extended branch: 16 McCowan: to Danforth This route I use regularly. It has a mix of uses and functions, like other mainline Scarborough routes. The Route Northbound buses leave Warden Station via Warden and St Clair. They operate alongside the 9 and 102, passing both single-family homes and some apartment buildings. The buses then head northeast on Danforth Road, which is mainly single-family homes, besides a cluster of condominiums and apartments near Midland and Gordonridge. The intersection is at Midland is also home to a busy shopping plaza. There is more commercial at Eglinton, with a mix of high, medium, and low density housing north of here. Beyond the Pringdale Ravine, it returns to single-family homes. At Perivale, Danforth curves to become McCowa...

Detours: to Yonge and Eglinton

Image
Hey everyone! For today's Detours post, I am documenting my walk to Yonge and Eglinton from my house. Similar to the previous Detours post, I will be providing my thoughts and showing pictures of sights from my walk.  So, I had set my alarm for 6:30, and I rolled out of bed at maybe 10:30. Tuesdays really are not it, so thank god I have no class then. I got dressed, and made my way out of the house. I would like to say that I do regret not taking my gloves or hat with me, as the first stretch and the walk from the bus stop home was  quite cold. Whatever, I survived.  I headed north on Victoria Park, and crossed that road at Cassandra. Here, I ran into my friend Ella heading to Tim Hortons. I walk this stretch along Cassandra very frequently. There's not much to say here, besides passing Brookbanks Park. This is one of the many linear paths that connect parts of Parkwoods and Don Mills. I find this one a bit less useful personally than the one just east of Wall...
